Slate Information

Welsh Portmadoc™ Blue Grey

Portmadoc Blue Grey Slate™ has been quarried and mined in North Wales since 1836 by the independently run Llechwedd quarry from rich deposits laid down in the Ordovician era around 500 million years ago.
Since these early days of production the quarry has built up a worldwide reputation for the beautiful blue grey slate, which is renowned for its performance, workability and durability.
During 2010 the quarry has seen a revival in production capacity due to new investment in machinery and skilled manpower. This means that this historic slate is readily available to order.
